Doesn't surprise me that some 'board members' might not want to ratify O'Brien. We have a history of cock-ups at CB level. If they don't appoint him then see what kind of panel we will have. We will go back 30 years and maybe this is what suits these brainless people. For me the last 2/3 years supporting Carlow footballers have been the best period in my 30 years following them. Some incredible days out: We put it up to Dublin, Monaghan, we hammered Kildare and Louth in 2018. Great numbers going to games.........all down to O'Brien. Maybe he should just walk away and let them fix everything!!!!!! They don't deserve him. God help us.

Well done to the footballers and management for 3 years in a row improvement. Just looking back over the past 10 years league performances and comparing to what's happened since O' Brien took over - there has been a marked improvement!!! Finishing positions in Div 4 2008 to 2017: 2008 7th Liam Hayes 2009 7th Liam Hayes 2010 6th Luke Dempsey 2011 5th Luke Dempsey 2012 7th Luke Dempsey 2013 7th Anthony Rainbow 2014 8th Anthony Rainbow 2015 5th Turlough O' Brien 2016 4th Turlough O' Brien 2017 3rd Turlough O' Brien 2018 ?????????? I hope they encourage O'Brien to stay - it's obvious he has a passion for his county and the players seem to respond well to him. We've has all the big names and what have they done?? The above table doesn't lie! Looking forward to championship game vs Wexford.

Replying To supersub15:  "If only all things in life were that simple, let me say I don't condone violence, harassment, or any sort of obscenities towards referee's or match officials, now let me ask you and those that found TO'B, SP, and BM guilty beyond fear of contradiction a question or two, my question is, - 1. Q. - Is their any mitigating factors in their favour,? simply YES /NO ? 2. Q. - What did they retaliate for, percicely.? 3. Q. - If the same Referee was appointed to officiate at the Carlow / Meath / Offaly game would you accept that appointment without question. 4. Q. - Finally, in your opinion should they resign their positions immediately from the Carlow senior football squad. "
1. Yes 2. Blatant robbery. 3. He wouldnt be accepted 4. No question should they resign..... O Brien..he is the most passionate genuine manager in our history of Carlow managers and has done an amazing job since taking over. I think he still has unfinished work to do.

Benny Kavanagh has given great service to club and county. Must be 34/35 now. I believe he has a new baby also - maybe that influenced his decision....massive schedule and time required now to be part of any county set up now. Very honest player, totally committed and never seems to have a bad game. Well done and thank you Benny Kavanagh from all Carlovians.

.....if we could just get a few of those handy dual players from MLR, Ballinkillen, Myshall, Bagenalstown etc to consider the football this year , we could be talking business... with a full panel, getting out of division 4 is possible Well it appears that's what's happened ..Several players in from all of those 4 clubs.....incl 4 dual players. Let's get behind them and show solidarity for a change.

What a turnaround for Carlow u-20s today to come from 10 points down vs Louth away to win by 2 - with 14 men. The Carlow 'fire in the belly' factor in 2018 is certainly spreading in both codes at all levels Well done to all !!!

Well said Blackbog. Enough negativity on this forum. Div 3 last year: ...very fine margins and awful decisions at the end of 2 of our games led to relegation. Div 4 is a minefield for every team in it. We could have won our last 2 games - we didn't. Let's start building for the Championship. On O'Brien: he is there for all the right reasons. Carlow blood runs through his veins, his commitment is unquestionable and he's not another outside manager being paid large amounts. He's our most successful manager in decades. Good luck to all involved for the rest of 2020.

Happy with what I saw and the style of play....We owned the 1st half. Possession probably 70% Carlow and led by 5 points. We brought in several substitutions and debutants in 2nd half. Great to see. Cut Meath defence wide open several times ..... Meath looked very average, they kicked a few nice long range points though in the 2nd half as did Darragh Foley throughout Several more players will feature in the other 2 games and then I'd imagine they'll cut the panel for the league. All in all though a very good challenge match.

Understand Westmeath supporters frustration and blame game for only drawing with LOWLY CARLOW.! However they did very well to get a draw with Carlow .... Who this year may be the best team in Div 4. Let's see what happens after next 2 games

1st game last Sunday was frustrating to watch at times. Bagenalstown inability to take 2 clear goal chances cost them dearly. Tinryland defence play is very effective even if not pretty to watch, I hope it doesn't spoil the County final as a spectacle for us neutrals. Broderick is in very good form picking off some nice points and his freetaking can the be the match winner. 2nd game more exciting but hard to judge the quality of both teams as the weather was atrocious. Eire Og came back well but had 3 players injured ....2 in first 10 mins....could afferct them for Sunday. Rathvilly had a 3.1 lead on penalties and should have put it to bed but a couple of bad penalties cost them. Keeper Furey made some good saves and brady was very calm in slotting home the winner. Impressive for a teenager. So I predict a dogged fight on Sunday. Won't be pretty but because of Tinryland systematic defence play I'll give them the nod in a low scoring game. Tinryland 0-10 E Og 0.8

Carlow will set up defensively as usual. Having said that they scored 4-31 in the 2 wins over Louth and Kildare last year! Not bad for a defensive team!!

Listening to kclr, the semi between btown and eire og didnt seem to be much of a game. 1.30 to 0.5 for e og. It seems they have abandoned their defensive system from last year. Gutted for btown who have done so well in all grades in their first year. Should be decent co final but pal will need to up their game and not let eire og go ahead early..

Talking to one of the panellists last night. He said SF panel is biggest in years. All clubs represented e.g. 8 from Pal, 6 Rathvilly, 5 EIre Og etc. Some hurlers in also. Great to see all buying into it. Anyone who's not in there you do without - shouldn't be followed or coaxed. The ones who want it most and will give it on the field are the players who are in. Good look to all for 2017.

McStay: Provincial Championships Have To Go - 1 Like(s)
Kevin McStay makes a lot of sense in what he says. The biggest problem in restructuring would be the opposition from the provincial councils. The Fix: As an experiment for 2/3 years why not scrap the current format of the league. Replace it by Provincials, each with it's own structure: Play end Jan to March...less games. Munster 6 counties play each other - 5 games each Con 5 counties play each other - 4 games each Ulster 2 groups 5 and 4 Leinster: 2 groups of 6 and 5 (depends on KK) Each province have a semi and final. Then All Ireland league semi and final. CHAMPIONSHIP 8 GROUPS OF 4 (London, NY pre qualify) all counties get 3 games. Top 2 in each group into Tier A knock out Bottom 2 in each group into Tier B knockout. This gives at least 4 games to every county at the time of the year when players love to play and supporters love to go to games. No qualifiers.
