All-Ireland final lightning strikes twice for Skehill

Galway's James Skehill goes off injured against Limerick

Sunday was the second time that unlucky Galway goalkeeper James Skehill had to be replaced due to injury in an All-Ireland SHC final.

Twelve minutes from the end of the heart-breaking one-point loss to Limerick at Croke Park, the Cappataggle clubman was injured making a courageous last-ditch block to deny Cian Lynch a third Treaty goal. Fearghal Flannery taking over for the closing stages, with ten minutes of injury time added on largely due to Skehill's misfortune.

It was a similar story for the Galway shot-stopper in 2012, when he was replaced by Flannery at half time in the final replay defeat to Kilkenny, having lucklessly dislocated his shoulder in a training ground collision the previous Friday night.

Skehill was back-up 'keeper last year, with Colm Callanan between the posts as Galway got the better of Waterford in the All-Ireland final.
