Carlow manager Turlough O'Brien may be given the freedom of the county having guided the side to promotion from NFL 4.

A three-point win over Antrim guaranteed the Barrowsiders Division Three football next year, which will see them ply their trade in the third tier for the first time in 33 years.

The reaction from the players, management and supporters on social media over the last few days just shows what it means to the everybody involved and O'Brien admitted to the Carlow Nationalist that it is the fruition of many years work.

"It means everything. I am around a long time in Carlow and I have said to you before, we have the players. With this panel of players we have lads who soldiered with Carlow through bad years and never faltered in their commitment to Carlow. Never. There are so many of them. I am lost for words," said O'Brien.

The Barrowsiders can now look forward to a league final against Antrim or Laois, which should see them get a rare run out at Croke Park.
