Kildare minor football manager Padraig Carbury has heaped praise on John Ball after the Lilywhites goalkeeper was named on the Minor Football Team of the Year.

Ball is currently sidelined through injury after he broke his fibula while playing minor football for his club in an outfield role.

This happened a week before the Team of the Year was announced and will come as some consolation to the youngster and Carbury told the Leinster Leader that he deserved his accolade.

“He has played in goals for me at colleges and county level since he was an under-14. He’s a great young lad and is very dedicated and committed to the game,” said Carbury.

“Two years ago he won a Kildare U16 Colleges medal with the school and last year won Fr Manning and Carlow Cup medals with Kildare, before going on to star with this year’s county minor team.

“Unfortunately his season is over for this year with the club and with my senior team in school in Clane, nevertheless I would like to wish him all the best for the future and hopefully he will come back stronger and better than ever.

“Being named on the Team of the Year is a great honour and I can’t recall any player more deserving of it.”
