Forker eyes up Monaghan clash

Armagh's Aidan Forker

Armagh forward Aidan Forker has cited the Orchard men’s third round Dr McKenna Cup clash with Monaghan next month as the perfect game to prepare them ahead of the National League.

Kieran McGeeney’s side earned promotion with a top place finish in Division 3 last season and Forker says that the team’s “main focus” will be on getting results in the second tier.

The Maghery clubman sees no better preparation for that than when Malachy O’Rourke’s side come to the Athletic Grounds on January 9th.

“We’re relishing it,” Forker told The Irish News. “Monaghan proved last year that they’re a top team and that’s where we want to get to.

“It will be a great test for all of us in terms of being in Division 2 now and it will be a great game in helping us prepare for the league and that’s where our main focus lies, to be honest.

“Getting a top four team, as they were last year, down at the Athletic Grounds, that’s where you want to be playing. We’re all excited about it, but we’ll be looking at Antrim next, that’s for sure.”
