Ah Bennybunny caome on,just because I have an opinion on it doesnt mean I am a yes man or a County Board man or whatever,Im actually not in a club at the moment,I was however & Ill be the first to say that the County Board are far from perfect.I just think the players have gone too far & have absolutely no respect for the fans,Gerald McCarthy etc.The same crap happened last year to Teddy Holland with the footballers. If you ask me some of the players just want to be involved in controversy.
Do you not realise that the youngters of today look up to these role models & will think that they can do the same in their club,do you realise that its currently happening in clubs & ruining clubs ?
Sean Og is a great guy & I have assive respect for him & some of the Cork hurlers, not all of them, but I just feel the players have gone too far & the damage could now be irreperable.I heard some so called fans saying that they wont support Cork if the senior players wont play, whoever wears the Cork jersey should get the support,as this is a county with a an awful lot of glory fans ie they will some when Cork are going well,

Insulted, called a moron, accused of ``knowing nothin``,caricatured as an attention seeking lounge lizard.Yes folks the first resort of ignorance is to villify.Points to note, look at the level of support for Gerald from around Ireland. No team field games Asociations or clubs allow the players a say in the picking of a manager, and point of information this is not going to become the norm in the Gaelic Athletic Association.``Bunnyman`` I wont be signing of just yet.I am waiting patiently for the Cork players to give us some analysis of their own individual efforts last year. How come the full back was at least half a stone overweight for the whole campaign.Surely it is a players individual responsibility to maintain his proper playing weight. He was roasted several times and clearly not up to the pace of the game.Yes the crying routine went down well with the cameras and the media, but it was way over the top, just clear evidence that certain chickens had come home to roost.

U21B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Anyone know of a team interested in an U21B hurling challenge? Who won the Avondhu U21B hurling final, also do the winners of the divisions go through to the county series, like what happens with the U21A championship

Think of the secretarys achievements over the years. The first full time position in the GAA outside of Secretary General of the Association. The redevelopment of the Athletic Grounds. The purchase of Flower Lodge and its redevelopment as Pairc Ui Rinn. The refereeing of All Ireland finals, of county finals. A selector on manys an AI winning team. An unrivaled knowledge of the GAA rulebook. A huge input into the development of that book. An unrivaled knowledge of procedure in the county and nationally, often used to get players off the hook (whether that is a good thing is very debatable), but also used to obtain material benefit for Cork (my first real sporting memory is the dubs down the pairc in 83).
However, these procedural skills have also been used to defy public opinion, or even democratic will. The Rule 42 debacle in 2001, when a recount of votes/re-vote at the national convention was overruled on procedural grounds. The rule 42 debacle in 2006, when the wishes of the clubs in Cork were ignored on procedural rules (but agreed to by delegates on the night of course!). The fear expressed by members of my club, by other clubs and people on this forum that any attempt to rock the boat will result in penal sanction by the board, one way or the other. The removal of the press from so many critical meetings of the board, a right to which the board is entitled, but an indictment of its own opinion of democratic participation. The almost total actual control exerted by the secretary over the board members, which manifested itself famously at yet another closed doors meeting last March, in which 20-30 board members rose to speak in his favour, and in which he received a 100% vote of confidence from the delegates - in spite of being an incredibly polarising figure across the GAA community in Cork and across the land.
The truth is that the only person living in a parallel world to the rest of us is the secretary. ON his own as a professional in an amateur organisation, on his own as a permanent member of a rotating executive, on his own with a 100% vote of confidence from his peers, unlike the manager or the players, in my opinion he is the one with the inflated ego, he is the one who is deluded. Therefore, it is not surprising that he is willing to risk the reputation of St. Colmans, as I have no doubt he thinks he will win and it will be business as usual next year, just like it ended up in all the previous long wars. And if the man is so confident in himself and his greatness in the GAA(his words during the 2002 strike), then Im sure hed rather see the whole organisation torn down in Cork than see it move on without him. 100% sure.
Next weekends match is the point of no return for everybody involved in gaelic games in Cork. If Ger Mc fields a team in the most unimaginably difficult circumstances, then it will be players who are proud to play versus elite money grabbers, or scabs versus player welfare, or those who are not with me are against me, and well all be forced to take sides. Shame on you Frank Murphy for allowing this to happen. It is an absolute disgrace!
The above two posts are written by another Cork supporter elsewhere. A brilliant post. The first sentence of first post refers to the decision to play Sundays match, Cork v St Colmans.

143845 I couldnt believe it at first either, but thinking about it more and more, it makes perfect sense in the broader scheme of things and where we are at after 6 years of this war.
Forget about the players, and forget about Ger Mc for the moment. Whatever side we are on, we might as well all admit that this all about the county secretary and a few close allies, and what American generals call "full spectrum dominance" of Gaelic games at the elite level in Cork. Over 35 years he has tangled with players, managers, selectors and even delegates and board officers, and if he has lost a few battles, he has never lost the war. Unlike all those "foes", he is a professional within the GAA, therefore time has always been on his side.
However in recent years he has had his wings clipped twice, in 2002 and 2008, by the players, by the press, to a lesser extent by the public, and even by Mulvey, who threw Teddy Holland back in his face, even though the secretary washed his hands of Holland by forcing the board to "democratically" vote to sack him. This has been nothing short of humiliation, and the secretary is a proud man, with a list of achievements as long as your arm to back him up.
I always expected him to go back into the long grass and bide his time, but maybe he realised that time is not his side for once and went straight back into the plotting. Following the Mulvey arbitration and the consequent vacancy that arose for Cork football manager, the secretary suggested a coach he knew under no circumstances the players could work with, and the players reps told him so. It was a short term battle he knew he wouldnt win, so he backed down and conor counihan was unanimously agreed. Consultation, not conflict. The way forward. But an indication that this thing could flare up again very soon.
And so conflict comes to pass again, much sooner than I thought. We now have the grim spectre of a former playing legend and AI winning coach in 1990 with a poor recent coaching record, and a proud determined man, up against current playing legends, seen by many as being past their best and cocooned in an ego-driven lifestyle of player power and product endorsements. With the reputations of Ger Mc, Donal Og, Sean og et al now tarnished beyond repair, why not sully the great name of St. Colmans Fermoy by commemorating it as the location where Cork GAAs civil war really took hold? Its just one more victim to be added to a long list.
To be continued

Good Post john51, its been amusing reading the drivel constantly on Cork pages from Trixy - Mayo. Bennybunny, don't be put off by his "articulated" ravings. The lad has an agenda with Cork (whats new from the great unwashed) and he knows nothing of GAA affairs in Cork. His love affair with G Mc is becoming a bit nauseating. IF he is from Mayo (Ballboy in disguise....interesting) then talking about bowing the knee in championship is nothing short of a bit rich. Since his ravings state nothing new and are not worthy of response...IGNORE the moron. You know his type in a bar on a Saturday night, stands in the middle of the floor to be seen, a captive audience, and his voice booms over the crowd, his subject.......you guessed Cork hurlers!

I wonder how many people from outside the county really understand what all this is about. They "waffle" on about how FM and the county board are great and what they are doing for the county but what exactly are they doing. What structures are in place to develop hurling and football around the county, how many coaches are employed by them to help develop the games in the schools around the county.Back in the 70's and 80's there were problems with the same county sec but people just buried their heads in the sand, now the players are taking a stand and are being lambasted for it.The likes of "Trixy" (or is it ball boy in disguise, again)coming on here and giving out their drivel about a situation which they know nothing about annoys me.I may be gone out of Cork for a few years but I still remember some very good players who gave up playing for their county because of the same county sec.

Sean Og visited our club Ballygalget last Saturday to coach and present medals to our juveniles. He was an absolute credit to first of all himself, his family, club and county. His manner with the children was superb and through out his visit he proved that despite his undoubted success he is a genuine and down to earth fella. i'd like to take this opportunity to thank him! I have been reading a lot about the situation regarding the hurlers and management and hope it is sorted out soon as hurling needs An Corcaigh

So ``Benny Bunny``has joined this particular thread having lost the arguement elsewhere.Clearly he never saw Gerald Mc Carthy play, and he clearly from his club or personal perspective has a gripe against the County secretary. Whether Gerald is a legend or not makes no difference at this stage of the debate.Sean Óg didnt sound like much of a legend on the radio last Friday.Failed to make his point at all.Another own goal. The ``bunnyman`` makes the point about a weakened Cork team not being good enough .Whats new? The so called strongest ``superstars``a.k.a.the whingers were way off the mark in recent championships and bowed the knee in 2008 to both their main rivals Kilkenny and Cork. Now Bunnyman I have your measure in this debate and well you know it!!. My literary ``lights`` have you very much in their sights and even you should know what happens to a ``bunny``who is blinded by the light.!!

142213 Bennybunny,
(1) You need to realise that the players are wrong, (2) Gerald McCarthy is a far bigger Cork legend then BenOConnor,Sean Og,Cusack etc.Now I know the County Board are wrong in many things too but this time the players are the more guilty.
,(3)if Cork dont have the best 15 or 20 next season then so be it, they will get replacements who would love to wear that Cork jersey.
(4) For the good of GAA in Cork the County Board
1. I think you need to realise that these players are brave and that they are standing up to the Cork county board unlike all the other yes men, saps and cronies of which you are part. It is people like you that are determined to see Cork hurling being dragged in to the mire by a County Board that has done nothing to promote hurling in Cork for 30 years. The players stood up to them in 2002, got a system in place that worked no end, promoted the game in Cork no end, gave children marketable heroes like Sean og, Ben and Gerry etc for the first time when other sports have had them for decades, when urban areas like Cork City really need GAA heroes to stay alive. And what??? You want to replace them with a bunch of fourth rate Junior B hurlers just so a power hungry county board can teach these amateur sportsmen a lesson for having the audacity to stand up to them when asking for basic respect in 2002??? That is pitiful.
2. Your second statement is entirely subjective. It is a matter of opinion. Not everyone thinks that Ger Mc is a bigger legend. In fact at this stage, his profile, is very sadly dwindling as are all the people you mentioned. That is the great pity in all of this. Great sports people like Ger Mc and Sean Og are being dragged through the gutter while our county secretary has fully backing of all the clubs in Cork?? Do you not find that amazing?? People that have represented Cork with pride and honour are having their reputations tarnished in public, Cork hurling is the biggest loser, while a guy that rewrote rules to suit his own benefit has the full backing of everyone?? Does that not beggar belief??
3. If Cork do not have the best 15, they will get replacements that are not good enough to win an All-Ireland. we have not won a minor since 2001 and an under 21 since 1998 (partially due to the fact that unlike may counties we have no development squads are proper coaching structures). an awful lot of players have already stated that they will not play in the current mess. Others will not play because they were already told they were not good enough. The team they put out would not be good enough to win the Nicky Rackard cup and let us be honest about that. Is that going to benefit Cork hurling?? Tomas O Leary was on our last minor winning team and he is now playing Rugby successfully. Talented young lads are usually good at many sports. Who do you think they will choose if given a choice, the chance to play with Munster Rugby or the chance to play on a Nicky Rackard hurling team with junior b lads. No brainer really.
4. For the good of Cork GAA?? Name one proactive thing the Cork county board did to promote hurling in Cork?? I am sure there is one thing, like buying Flower Lodge so the soccer could not have it or appointing full time coaches to UCC and CIT to coach elite players from other counties while clubs struggled with finances to look after their own promotion. Ya, real heroes these lads. We should do what they say is right without question. I here the GAA are thinking of opening up a 4th tier competition. Just as well as we will need it.
