Goulding eager to build on Munster win
August 09, 2008
Cork sharpshooter Daniel Goulding has stressed that Cork's sensational victory over Kerry in last month's Munster final will count for nothing if they fail to beat Kildare in tomorrow's All-Ireland football quarter-final.
The Rebels recovered from an eight-point half-time deficit to shock the All-Ireland champions and are desperate to build on that, starting with Sunday's clash with the Lilywhites.
"It gives us a bit of confidence, a positive," the Ovens man said.
"We showed ourselves that we were still up to it when we stood up to the plate at half-time. We were looking at another drubbing but thankfully we upped our performance.
"If we are on the wrong side on Sunday, the Munster final will forgotten fairly fast so it's up to us to drive on from here. It's do-or-die.
"It was great the way we won it but we were brought back to reality (in training) the following Tuesday."
Goulding says Cork are equally keen to erase the memories of last year's All-Ireland final mauling at the hands of Kerry.
"Everyone knows what happened in last year's final," he added.
"As a group of players, I think it was probably the worst thing that could happen to us. It wasn't unfair but I don't think we deserved it for the amount of work that went into it."
