The Late Brother Fabian O'Donoghue The death took place in Cork of Br Fabian O'Donoghue from Cree. A brother of Maura Lernihan, Clonwhite and the late Seán O'Donoghue, Cree, Br Fabian had been domiciled in Cork for many years and he was aged 71. At the tender age of eighteen months, Br Fabian's mother died and he was raised by a loving couple, Minnie and Tom Cusack until school-going age. At the age of 14 he went to Mount St Josephs, Presentation Brothers in Cork and joined the Presentation Brothers. He was professed in 1956 and he trained as a teacher at De La Salle College in Waterford. He taught at most Presentation schools and at Chriost Rí while he was principal at St Josephs and Greenmount National School. He spent a short time in Cobh before returning to Greenmount. Although based in Cork for many years, he never forgot his native Clare and regularly visited Cree to see his two nieces and six nephews. He was an outstanding footballer and won senior championship medals with his native Corraclare in 1964 and 1965. In 1969 he joined the famed Nemo Rangers club in Cork City and he went onto win Cork senior championships with them in 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975. He helped the Cork city club to Munster and All-Ireland club honours in 1973 when they beat St Vincents in the All-Ireland final. He guided Greenmount National School to county success in 1976. Up to his illness at the end of 2006, he helped out with underage coaching in Ballinure. He had a special interest in Cooraclare and Clare football and whenever the opportunity arose he, attended games they played. He was also a keen coursing fan and was the joint owner of Sienna Steel which was recently beaten in the derby semi-final at the national coursing meeting in Clonmel. He was laid to rest at Mount St Josephs cemetery, Blarney Street, overlooking his adoptive Cork. Courtesy of the Clare Champion 29th February 2008
