Walsh, Kevin

May 08, 2008
The Late Kevin Walsh People came in droves to attend Kevin Walsh's funeral, in Conna. "It was the biggest funeral Conna had ever seen", said one local who attended the service. The remarkable young man from Conna, well loved by his schoolmates from Colaiste an Chraoibhin in Fermoy where he attended and would have sit his Leaving Cert exam in a few weeks, his mates from the local soccer and GAA clubs, family and other friends, was mourned and celebrated with joy, although hearts were filled with sadness. His untimely death in the horrific car accident on April 27 sent shock waves through the entire local community who knew him and has been involved with Kevin one time or another. The church service was beautiful and emotional- a fitting celebration of a life so intense and full of many achievements at such an early age. Feelings were still raw, as the reality of Kevin's passing couldn't be felt more acutely. Father Billy O'Donovan, the parish priest conducted the ceremony. He spoke of Kevin as the 'unique' young man. He spoke about his outgoing nature, about sports involvement, about how much he will be missed by everyone who was touched by him. In a way he brought closure to what has been a gruelling week for the family and the ones close to him, among them, Kevin's parents and brother Mark, who was also involved in the car accident and sustained significant injuries. The Colaiste classmates, the GAA and the Valley Rangers soccer club provided a guard of honour. Declan Barron, representative of ECWW (East Cork West Waterford) soccer league, also took part in the funeral service and read a tribute to Kevin and his involvement in the league. The Bride Valley Band played Kevin's favourite son, "The Galway Girl' and the Colaiste and church choirs sang beautiful pieces of music that lifted everyone's spirits while touching a cord deep inside and bringing tears to the eyes. Flowers and wreaths were everywhere and the entire parish helped with organising the funeral. The Avondhu extends its deepest sympathy to Kevin's family, relations and friends and hopes the time will bring closure for such deep wounds and sorrow. May he rest in peace.
