McSweeney, Myles

February 23, 2008
The Late Myles McSweeney On January 28th last, sad news filtered through that Kilmurry's long serving President Myles McSweeney had passed away following a brief illness. Myles was a much loved and respected figure both in the community and in GAA circles throughout the county. His dedication and service to the club was unparalleled with over eight decades of service both as a player and as an officer. His tenure as as club president began in 1969 a position he served with distinction right up until his sudden departure. Myles was also directly involved in much of Kilmurry's successes down through the years. He acted as a selector in the clubs 1969 county winning team a position he also served a year later with his division culminating in Muscrai winning their only senior county title to date in 1970. Despite his advanced years, his enthusiasm and passion for the club remained undiminished regularly attending games and positioned on the sideline always available to offer his advice if it was called upon. Myles' passing leaves a huge void in the club and his presence will be sadly missed by all. On behalf of the club we wish to convey our sympathies to his daughters Patricia, Collette and Kathy.
