Clifford, Johnny

October 30, 2007
All Corkonians must have been saddened to hear of the passing of Johnny Clifford. A minor prodigy he went on to score the winning goal against Wexford in the '54 All-Ireland senior hurling final. He managed Cork to the '86 All-Ireland, defeating Galway in the final. kevin Hennessy scored two goals that day. John Fenton goaled a twenty metre fee and Thomas Mulcahy goaled at the end of the defence splitting run. That was the day of the famous Pat Hartnett/Brendan Lynskey clash near the sideline. While Denis Walsh was excellent at left half back. The late Johnny was coach to the Catherine's team in 1990. Losing to Kilbrittain. A minute's silence was observed in his memory prior to last Sunday's double header in Cork. Ar dheis De go raibh a hainm a dhilis. Courtesy of The Avondhu October 2007
