The late Seamus Gallagher It was with deep regret and sadness that his many friends in Beara heard of the death of Seamus Gallagher, Birch Grove, Umera, Macroom, which occurred after a short illness. The Gallagher family was well known in the Beara area when their father was Sergeanin charge of the Castletownbere Garda Station in the 1930's, on to the 1960s. Seamus was an outstanding footballer and as well as lining out for the town, he played most of his football with the Urhan club during the 1960s and was a member of the Urhan team that won the County Intermediate Championship in 1967. After leaving Castletownbere, Seamus kept in contact with the Beara area through his business. Following Requiem Mass in Macroom Church, burial took place in St Colman's Cemetery. Surviving members of the Urhan 1967 team formed a guard of honour at the funeral. There was a large attendance from Beara also present. Seamus is survived by his wife Joan, son Seamus, daughters Siobhan and Aoife, brother, sisters and relatives to whom sympathy is extended. Courtesy of The Southern Star 17 March 2007
