Dorgan, Matty

January 26, 2006
The late Matty Dorgan Killavullen was in mourning recently following the death of GAA stalwart Matty Dorgan who died suddenly on Friday, January 13th, 2006. The 67-year old suffered a fatal heart attack which left the entire community shocked and saddened. A huge crowd turned out at Killavullen church to pay their respects to Mr Dorgan, with member of Killavullen GAA Club forming a guard of honour at the funeral which took place on Monday afternoon at the local Church and graveyard. A fantastic hurler and footballer, Mr Doran was the life and soul of Killavullen GAA having played at centre field in the team that won the North Cork championship in 1963. He continued to play an integral role in the club until his passing. "If you wanted something done, no matter what it was; Matty was the man to do it. He was the heartbeat of the entire club and his passing is a tremendous loss not only to his family, but the club and entire village," said Seamus O'Driscoll, secretary of the club. Always willing to help out, Matty managed the junior football team, cut the grass, lined the field, performed traffic duties on match days - he combined it all with his role as vice president of the club. "He will be impossible to replace; you'll never find another man like Matty," said O'Driscoll. A very religious man and an active farmer, Mr Dorgan was described as a very fit man, with most people believing him to be in his mid-fifties. He is survived by his wife Mary, sons Declan and Brian and daughters Rosemary and Lorraine. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Courtesy of The Avondha 26 January 2006
