The Late John O'Keeffe
All Kilmeen and Kilbree GAA Club members were deeply saddened to learn of the death of John O'Keeffe, Coolnaconartha.
John wore the Kilmeen jersey with passion and pride during the 50s and 60s and will be long remembered as a member of the 1962 championship winning Kilmeen team, in which he lined out at midfield. Caheragh and Rangals were defeated on route to a final where the challenge of great rivals Courcey Rovers was overcome.
In 1965 John lined out at wing back for the league and championship winning side which once again defeated Courceys in the West Cork final to claim the Nolan Cup to add to the league title that Kilmeen won for the first time when they defeated Goleen in April 1965.
A great character, who was never short of witty response when required, be it supporting either Cork or Kilmeen, John remained a great servant and loyal supporter of the club down through the years and those who wear the blue and white will sadly miss his wonderful support. Kilmeen and Kilbree GAA club would like to offer its deepest sympathy to the O'Keeffe family and may John O'Keeffe rest in peace.
