Branagan 'did a good job', says resigning Cork boss

Cork backroom member Billy Sheehan confronts referee Ciaran Branagan after the match.

Cork manager Peader Healy says he has no issue with referee Ciaran Branagan after the Down official appeared to bring proceedings to an early end in yesterday's All-Ireland SFC qualifier loss to Mayo.

Luke Connolly's 77th minute free forced the game at the Gaelic Grounds into extra time for the Rebels and they trailed by a point again in second-half injury-time before Branagan blew the final whistle 20 seconds short of the announced three minutes of additional time.

"Look, the referee is a human being. I'm sure when he looked at it, he felt the time was up," Healy told the Irish Examiner.

"He maybe thought it was 3:20. If we got a turnover who knows what would have happened but, look, I'm not going to blame a referee. To be fair, I thought he did a good job."
