O'Mahony, Dan Joe

July 20, 2013
Former club officer Dan Joe O'Mahony passed away over the weekend. When he retired from the Gardai, he returned to live in the parish and became involved in the administration side of the club. Dan Joe was a brilliant PRO for the club. He covered all the club activities from underage to inter-county in great detail.
Everyone looked forward to reading the club notes every week in The Southern Star, especially parishioners who lived overseas as he kept them up to date with all club activities. Dan Joe took great pride in the club grounds at Moneyvolihane. He always gave the visiting team's a great welcome to Moneyvolihane.
The club grounds were like a second home to Dan Joe. If you called there during the day, you would see him with his wheelbarrow, planting a tree or digging a drain. It was a labour of love for him. The club grounds are a credit to Dan Joe and the club will be forever indebted to him. At his funeral, club members shouldered his coffin and formed a guard of honour.
