Deasy, Liam

January 05, 2013
The unexpected death of Liam Deasy in December ended the life of a man who was a dynamic footballer in his day and a very able and respected administrator with his beloved Bandon GAA Club.

A former president of the club, his many talents were recognised and acknowledged by all who knew him and knew of him in West Cork. A wonderful raconteur, his wit and wisdom were standout features of a man who was a friend to everyone regardless of class, creed or political persuasion. He was known throughout West Cork as a representative with Deasy & Co, the drinks people. He suffered from multiple sclerosis and was confined to a wheelchair for many years. However, his spirit and bravery could not be confined and he sought new challenges when he had to give up- his day job. Soon after he was to the fore as BHOC, Bandon Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber, was born. BHOC is an excellent voluntary organisation doing invaluable work giving hope and support to hundreds of people who suffer a myriad of ailments and afflictions. Its facilities at the Town Hall, Bandon are open to everyone who needs them. Liam was also a political activist long associated with the Fianna Fail party. He is survived by his wife Norma and sons Michael and Liam. Ni bheidh a leitheid ann aris. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
