Sad death of Michael Byrne
Last week the club learned of the passing of Michael Byrne, former Garda Superintendent at Midelton and Union Quay. In his pre-superintendent days, Michael served as sergeant in Dunmanway in the late 1950s and early '60s and took a keen interest in the club, both as a player and administrator. He played in goal in the controversial county junior football final of 1959, Dohenys V Dromtarriffe and held that position with Dohenys until his retirement in 1962. He was very much involved in the redevelopment of Sam Maguire Park, which reopened in 1960 after much-needed renovation. Michael will always be remembered for his drive in encouraging the many forms of voluntary work, which was carried out in that project. To his wife and family the club extends its sincere sympathy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
