Players and fans from the world of handball gathered in Mallow last week to pay a final farewell to Eamonn Murphy who was so instrumental in the formation and success of the game in Mallow. Eamonn passed away at Marymount Hospice in Cork on Tuesday May 29.

A native of Walsh Island in Co. Offaly, Eamonn worked as a Beet Factory representative for many years and lived with his family at Blackrock Park.

He spent most of his spare time working for the promotion of handball in the region and was renowned for his interest in young players and had loyal interests in their progress in various competitions. Mallow Handball Club formed a guard of honour at his funeral.

Eamonn is predeceased by his wife Carmel and son Fr. Tom and survived by his sons Ger, Eddie and Brendan, daughters Margaret, Deirdre, Annette, Noelle, sister Margaret, relations, neighbours and friends.

Requiem Mass was celebrated in the Church of the Resurrection on Thursday May 31 at 2.30pm followed by burial in St Gobnait's Cemetery. To the Murphy family we extend our deepest sympathy.
