The death of Joan Kenny of Abbeylands occurred last week. The club extends sympathy to her family. In the 1960s when Castlelyons GAA looked for a suitable field to develop as playing pitch, Joan Kenny showed her willingness to provide suitable land. The field in question was very well positioned with direct access to the main street of the village.

This field was developed as Parc an tAthair Peadar O Laoghaire. On the same site the community centre was build a few years later. We all know how important the GAA pitch and the community centre has been for the community of Castlelyons over the years. We owe a debt of gratitude to Joan Kenny.
