Sadness at death of Jerry Keating

THE death of former Duhallow Junior Board Chairman Jerry Keating has been greeted with great sadness by Gaelic games Gaels across and outside the North West Cork divison.

Holding the position for twenty eight years, the Lyre clubman enjoyed a distinguished administrative career culminating on serving as divisional board chairman from 1974-2002.

A native of Rylane, the late Jerry was a retired National school principal and in his capacity as Duhallow Board Juvenile Board Secretary, he worked tirelessly for promotion of gaelic affairs and particularly the game of hurling.

To enhance the skills and the development of juvenile hurling within Duhallow, Jerry
Was behind the innovative move of setting up Coiste na Iomanta in the division in
1967. That helped to put together a divisional U14 hurling panel and coaching
Sessions to some of the great household names such as Gerald and Justin McCarthy
Helped Duhallow dominate the county competition for some years.

During his tenure as Junior Board Chairman, the late Jerry took satisfaction on
Duhallow capturing back to back county senior football titles in 1990/91.
Culturally, he held the position of Chairman of Cork Coiste Scor for 13 years, holding
A key interest on promoting all the best in music, song and dance amongst GAA
clubs. Whether as a teacher or an administrator, by his disposition, Jerry Keating was
A thorough gentleman. Truly captivating, his kindness and understanding was seen
In his enthusiasm and dedication that endeared him to a legion of friends far and
