Immense sadness at loss of Pat O'Donovan

There was shock and immense sadness within St James's club and the wider community loss of Pat O'Donovan.

Pat had been a true sportsman and was involved in numerous clubs and organisations over the years. This was certainly reflected in the various clubs who participated and provided help and support over the course of the weekend.

Pat's role in St James was extensive. As goalkeeper in 1981, he was instrumental in securing victory in the junior B West Cork football final by making a crucial save late in the game. Pat was involved as a club officer for many years and always made himself available to assist the club.

The attendance by so many young people at the funeral signified the admiration that the youth had for Pat. Indeed over the years, Pat had become a father figure to many.
To Pats wife Ann, his three sons Diarmuid, Kieran and Brian, and his extended family, sincerest sympathies are extended. Pat will be missed at games, especially for his gentle support and words of encouragement. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

As a mark of respect to Pat, games scheduled for last weekend, with the junior Cs beating Muintir Bhaire to win the league, and the junior As losing their semi-final against Oliver Plunkett's.
