The Late Kevin Mannix

Banteer and Gortmore wrapped a grieving family in the warmth of its sympathy following the untimely death of talented GAA player Kevin Mannix on St Stephen's Day.
His passing has numbed the closely knit North Cork communities as friends and neighbours rallied to support his heartbroken parents and family.
Tributes poured in from throughout the county for the hugely talented Kevin, described as a passionate and determined player who had great pride in his Banteer/Lyre clubs and Duhallow division.
Banteer hurling chairman Done Barry said Kevin's death shocked and saddened a community in which his family have rendered trojan service to the clubs.
"The Mannix family are totally immersed in GAA affairs, Kevin was a brilliant talent who brought his immense skills to the playing fields", he said.
Just a few weeks a go the 20 year old CIT student played a key role on assisting Duhallow take the outright spoils in the Co. U21 Hurling Championship on over coming Ballinhassig in the decider. A model of consistency, Kevin nailed down a wing back position to emerge a commanding figure all through the series.
A former pupil of Colaiste Treasa, he helped the Kanturk school sample All Ireland Vocational School senior hurling success in 2006 in addition to being a member of th county panel that captured. All Ireland honours. Later in 2006 Kevin, just 16 years of age, figured on a Banteer team that bridged an 11 year gap to regain the Duhallow JAHC title.
During his tenure at CIT, Kevin served as selector to a team that capture the All Ireland Freshers Hurling title earlier this year.
Remembered for his warm and obliging personality, Kevin was a young man who enjoyed life and the company of others and he was always a great companion and a true friend to many. And Kevin's kindness in the fulfilment of neighbourly chores knew no bounds, the care an attention to detail commanded the esteem and respect of everybody who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Gaelic games will recognise Kevin Mannix for his contribution to Duhallow and to the Banteer hurling and Lyre football clubs but it will be the family who will feel most the sadness of his passing.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Kevin's parents Tom and Eileen and his brothers Donal, Stephen and Tomás.
