Kearney, Denis

December 18, 2008
It was with great sadness the Kilbrin community lost one of its greatest members with the passing of Denis (Dinny) kearney at his residence Garrison, recently. Dinny was a fantastic community and GAA activist. He was a chairman of the Community Council for many years, and brought about many improvements to our community. Under his stewardship, he revamped our community and GAA facilities, some of the projects he undertook and completed were the stand in the GAA field, the scoreboard, he built the entrance wall erected gates, named the Field Fr Kelleher Park (in honour of Fr Finbarr Kelleher who did trojan work during his time in Kilbrin.) A lot of the above work was done in his workshop in Garrison. He also built, made and designed our first playground, installed the tennis court, revamped the community social club. He didn't forget our local National School either and did wonderful work there that still benefits the children today, and for ever more. Dinny, of course, was renowned for his many roles in the Tops of the Parish, and brought people from far and wide to see him on stage, he brought laughter and cheer no matter what part he took in the shows. he travelled far and wide to support his beloved Rebel County. he also found time to be a selector in our local GAA teams. The huge crowds that attended his funeral shows the esteem the Kearney family are held in the community and beyond. Funeral Mass in St John The Baptist Church, was celebrated by Fr Michael Campbell, with Fr Frank O Neill PP, Fr Eamonn Barry, Fr Finbarr Kelleher, Fr Joe O Mahony, Fr Con O Donovan, Fr Anthony O Brien, Fr Toby Bluitt and Fr Jim O Conner (Kiltegan Fathers) The late Dinny will be sadly missed by the community and by his many, many friends, but especially by his loving wife Margaret and family, Denise, Ronan, Bernadette, grandchildren, son-in-law Alan and all his relations. To them, we extend our deepest sympathy, may he rest in peace. Corkman, 18/12/08
