Regretted death of Paddy Boyle The death of Paddy Boyle, publican and photographer on Sunday, January 4, last at St Finbarr's Hospital, Cork, has robbed Bandon, and his native Belfast, of one of its finest, most popular and most respected citizens. Paddy Boyle and his wife Peggy came south in the 1970s and set up home in Bandon where they reared a very fine family of six, Kieran, Deirdre, Katherine, Anna, Niall and Denis. Paddy soon established himself as an excellent photographer and he covered the length and breadth of west Cork covering GAA matches and other social events of the time. He 'performed' at hundreds of weddings and his work was featured regularly in The Southern Star, Bandon Opinion and the Irish Examiner. He also ran a pub on the North Main Street, close to Bandon Courthouse and Bandon Town Hall, for a number of years. Paddy Boyle was a keen follower of the GAA, basketball and international soccer. A huge crowd attended his removal from O'Reilly's Funeral Home on Monday evening and an equally large crowd attended his funeral mass which was said by Fr. Paul O'Donoghue CC, St Patrick's Church with Fr Eoin Whooley in attendance. The Bishop of Cork and Ross, Reverend John Buckley, unavoidably absent, sent his sympathies to Peggy and the Boyle family on their sad loss. Son Kieran delivered a poignant eulogy to his late father and at the conclusion of the Mass Paddy's favourite "The Green Glens of Antrim" was sung superbly by his granddaughter Ellen Corby (Dublin). Donough Corby and Enda Boyle brought the gifts to the altar while they and Conal Boyle also read the prayers of the faithful. Twin brothers Niall and Denis Boyle read the readings at the Mass. Paddy Boyle spent two wonderful years, we understand, under the care of the staff at Cremers Nursing Home, Belgooly, and 'Rocky' and the gang, accomplished musicians linked to the home, gave a marvellous rendition of some of Paddy's favourites during the Mass. Paddy Boyle's last official assignment was the Bandon 400 celebrations and the visit of Mary McAleese, President of Ireland, to Bandon. Paddy Boyle was a very proud father and mentor when his son Denis graduated with a BA Honours in Photography from the Dublin Institute of Technology ten years ago. Denis carries on the business from his studio opposite the General Post Office. Paddy Boyle was 70 years young on his death.
