'Bonner' gets dreaded cruciate diagnosis

Patrick 'Bonner' Maher weighs up his options

It has been confirmed that Tipperary attacker Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher suffered a season-ending cruciate ligament injury on Sunday.

The in-form Lorrha-Dorrha ace jarred his knee when landing awkwardly during the victory over All-Ireland champions Limerick at Thurles and was in obvious distress as he was stretchered off after receiving treatment on the pitch for up to five minutes.

An MRI scan yesterday confirmed that the 29-year-old has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament. The two-times All Star will undergo surgery to repair the damage and will be sidelined for at least nine months, which rules him out for the remainder of 2019 as well as a considerable portion of next season.
