St Finbarr's opened their Cork SFC defence with an emphatic 3-12 to 0-6 victory over Clyda Rangers on Saturday.

It was the perfect start to new manager Paul O'Keeffe's reign. An Eoghan McGreevy goal helped the 'Barr's to a 1-8 to 0-2 interval lead before Colm Keane and Alan O'Connor raised further green flags in the second half.

Former kingpins Nemo Rangers were equally impressive first round winners over Valley Rovers. Barry O'Driscoll, Kevin O'Donovan and Conor Horgan were among the goals as the Trabeg outfit cruised to a 3-14 to 1-6 win.

Meanwhile, Clonakilty accounted for Newcestown by 2-9 to 0-9, Douglas were 1-10 to 1-9 winners over Bishopstown, Doheney's handed out a 4-15 to 0-5 drubbing to St Nicholas, while last year's 'premier' IFC winners Fermoy recorded a surprise 1-9 to 0-11 victory over Castlehaven in what was their first senior championship outing in 55 years.
