Clare 1-20
Cork 0-21

Clare produced the goods late on to deny Cork in Ennis and pick up their first win in the Munster senior hurling league.

Colin Guilfoyle’s 62nd minute turned the tide for the Banner men after they’d trailed from the second minute onwards with a strong looking Cork outfit, which included Stephen McDonnell, Aidan Walsh and Shane Kingston, having led by 0-13 to 0-7 at the halfway stage.

Declan Dalton weighed in with six frees during a dominant first-half from the Rebels but the home side flew out of the traps after the restart.

Four points in the opening seven minutes of the resumption got the trailers motoring, with joint managers Gerry O’Connor and Donal Moloney introducing the experienced Conor Cleary and Jack Browne to the fray after the break.

Clare closed the gap to one on three different occasions from there but looked done for once the Leesiders stretched the margin out to four again with as many minutes left in regulation.

However, right on cue sub Guilfoyle hammered home the game’s only goal and injury-time points from Ryan Taylor and Diarmuid Ryan sealed the deal much to the delight of the majority of 1,987 fans in attendance at Cusack Park.
