Dublin’s Brian Fenton and Cian Lynch of Limerick have been named on the longlist for the 2018 RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year award.
RTÉ announced the longlist of 23 this evening and are set to reveal the final shortlist on Sunday Sport on Radio 1 next Sunday week, December 9, with the awards to be presented on December 15.
Rahney native Fenton made another outstanding contribution at midfield for the Dubs this past season as Jim Gavin’s side collected their fourth consecutive Sam Maguire crown with victory over Tyrone in September.
He was named ‘Footballer of the Year’ at the All-Star awards at the beginning of the month, while the same ceremony saw Limerick’s Lynch pick up the ‘Hurler of the Year’ gong and become the first man from the Treaty County to land the accolade since Eamonn Grimes in 1973.
Lynch was a dynamo in the Shannonsiders' midfield all season long as they captured their county’s first Liam MacCarthy Cup in 45 years.
Having also tasted All-Ireland success off the back of excellent campaigns in 2018, Dublin ladies captain Sinead Aherne and Cork camogie star Chloe Sigerson make up the four GAA players nominated for award this year.
