Malone, Paddy

October 20, 2006
The late Paddy Malone The death occurred at his home in Rineen, Miltown of former Miltown and Clare footballer, Paddy Malone. Though small in stature, he was powerfully strong and fearless on the playing fields. Affectionately known as 'the iron man', he gave many outstanding displays for both club and county and is recognised as one of Miltown's all time greats. Paddy played in five Clare senior football finals, winning two medals and he also won two Cusack Cup medals. He had memories of great club games against teams like Kilrush, Ennis Faughs, Kilmurry-Ibrickane, Cooraclare and Lisdoonvarna and he liked nothing better than to share those memories with his many friends. He retired after the 1957 County final at the age of 34 and although display that day is still recalled. Paddy was a gentleman on and off the field. He will long be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to have seen him play but particularly those who knew him. Former team mates and club members formed a guard of honour as his funeral and his coffin was draped with the colours of his beloved Miltown St Joseph's.
