Death of former Clare footballer The death took place in Wicklow of former Clare footballer, Dick Bradley from Blackweir. A member of the Clare team in the forties, he played at midfield for the Banner outfit in 1946 when they enjoyed a good run in the National League. That particular league campaign was suspended for a period due to an outbreak of foot and mouth disease and then it resumed in the spring the four semi-finalists were Clare, Wicklow, Derry and Longford. Clare beat Wicklow in their semi-final and Bradley played at midfield. Coincidentally, one of the Wicklow midfielders in that game, Paddy O'Neill, also passed away. Dick Bradley was a member of a well known Clare family. Together with is brothers George, who died (he lived at Bawnmore, Kilkee), Vincent who lives in Coventry and Willie who lives in Southampton, they won many honours in both athletics and gaelic football with their native Blackweir.
