Malone, Fr. Paddy

Late Fr. Paddy Malone Many tributes were paid during the week on Kilkee parish priest, Fr Paddy Malone, who died suddenly. A native of Miltown Malby and a member of a well known family, he served as a priest of the Killalow Diocese for 45 years. Educated at the local national school and St. Flannan's College, Ennis, he went on to the study for the priesthood at St. Patrick's College Maynooth where he was ordained in 1958. After his ordination he served in St. Mary's College, Galway. In July 1960 he was appointed to the staff of St. Flannan's College and from 1982 to 1986 he was vice-president there. Fr. Pat then got involved in parish work and from 1986 to 1990 he served as curate in Tulla. He was appointed parish priest of Kilmihil in 1990 and he was served as Kilkee parish priest since 1996. A well known and popular person, he took a keen interest in sports and won county juvenile and minor championship medals with Miltown Malbay football club. He also played football while at St.Flannan's and was a member of the team which was beaten one point by St. Brendan's of Killarney in the Munster School final in 1951. He was also a keen golfer and was an officer and member of a number of clubs in the county. He also took a keen interest in the development of Doonbeg Golf Club. Two of his brother, the late Fr. Tony, who was a Kiltegan priest, and Billy, who is a retired school teacher, won senior football championship medals with Miltown Malby, Fr. Malone's remains were removed from Lillis's funeral home. Kilkee to the Church of the Immaculate Conception and St. Senan, Kilkee on December 19 and the funeral after Mass the following day took place to the priest's cemetery, Kilkee. Fr. Malone is survived by his brother, Billy, sisters, Mary, Teresa and Eileen, uncle, Bill, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews and nieces. Courtesy of the Clare Champion December 2002
