The Late Tom Conway The death occurred on New Year's Eve, after a short illness, of Tom Conway, Frure, Lissycasey. Tom 79, was a very well known and much loved member of the community. He was President of the local GAA club for the past 16 years during which time he played a very active part in the club's progress from junior to senior level. He served on the club's development committee which helped develop playing facilities and meeting rooms. He represented the club on many occasions at GAA conventions. Well know for his work as an umpire. Tom served with referees, Johnnie Hayes, Johnnie Hill and Michael McMahon on many occasions. He helped with the local National school football teams while he also devoted many hours to officiating at a variety of parish events. Tom will be particularly remembered for his work as a steward at the local parish hall dances and at the very successful marquee promotions throughout the '60s and '70s. His popularity was very much in evidence at he removal of his remains from Normoyle's Funeral Home on New Year's evening and again at the funeral Mass and burial on Thursday as huge crowds attended on both occasions. Members of the GAA club and pupils from the local National school formed a guard of honour on both days. He is survived by his sisters Kitty (O'Sullivan) and Mary Ann as well as his nieces and nephews. Courtesy of the Clare Champion January 2003
