The death took place earlier this week, after a short illness of Marty Keane, Caherea Lissycasey. A popular member of the community, he was a successful farmer. A keen sports follower, he was a strong GAA fan and served the local club as a player and mentor over the years.
He was at wing-back on the Lissycasey team which won the club's first championship title, the junior A crown, in 1971. There was a big turnout at the removal of remains from Normoyles on Wednesday.
Funeral mass takes place on this Thursday at Our Lady of the Wayside Church in Lissycasey after which burial will take place in the adjoining cemetery.
