The death took place last week of Paddy Keane, Doonbeg and late of Dublin, who was a retired Assistant Commissioner of An Garda Siochána.

Paddy joined the Garda Siochána in the 1940s and in a distinguished career that saw him promoted through the ranks, he was appointed Assistant Commissioner of the force at An Garda HQ, Phoenix Park, Dublin in the'70s. An efficient police officer, he was noted for his courtesy and impartiality in the administration of the law, qualities that won him the respect of his fellow members of the gardaí and the general public. A talented GAA footballer, he played with distinction for Doonbeg Magpies and Clare. Over the years he followed the fortunes of Clare and his native Doonbeg with keen interest, travelling from Dublin to many games in Ennis and West Clare. His relatives and many friends in Doonbeg attended his requiem mass in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Killiney, Dublin on Wednesday. Cremation followed in Mount Jerome Crematorium.
