The Late Mick Kelly

Cree native Mick Kelly who died in London last week after a shot illness, was actively involved in the promotion of Gaelic games.
A former chairman and treasurer of the St. Anne's Club, he was 69.

Mick had served on the board of the now defunct St Anne's Club in South London for many years having been introduced to the club as a player in the 1970s. He had also served as chairman of the Cuchullains GAA club for a short period.

Mick who, before emigrating, played football with Kilmihil, when he worked at Fitzpatrick's garage, was also a well known referee in London and he took charge of games at New Elthan, Hackney, Edmonton and Ruislip.

He did a lot of work in helping maintaining the New Eltham grounds. His hobby was maintaining the local tractor, which was of vintage value and to this day, is still in use and displayed at exhibitions shows in Ireland.

He regularly carried spectators from South London to Ruislip on match days and he was renowned for his story-telling abilities.

His brothers, Joe, Tom Jim Tim and William, attended the funeral mass and burial in England. He was predeceased by his sister Susan. He is survived by his wife, Mary, son Fergus and daughters, Fiona and Caroline.

Mass for the repose of his soul will be celebrated at Cree Church.
