The Late Jarlath McInerney

Galway District Court was adjourned on Monday as a mark of respect to well-known South Galway solicitor, Jarlath McInerney, who died unexpectedly at his home.
Mr McInerney (47), a native of Gort who lived with his wife, jackie and their three young children at Taylor's Hill, Salthill, Galway was the principal of McInerney Solicitors, at Prospect Hill, Galway.
Stunned colleagues and friends gathered at the scheduled sittings of the District Court in Galway on Monday to pay tribute to the late McInerney, who died following a fall at his home last Saturday night.
Mr McInerney, whose late father was an auctioneer in Gort for many years, graduated from NUIG in 1988 and served his apprenticeship in Justin Sadleir's Solicitors in Gort, before working for a time in England. He returned in recent years to set up his own successful practice in Galway city.
He was a keen sportsman, who took an active role in his local Salthill/Knocknacarra GAA Club, coaching both juvenile football and hurling teams.
Visiting Judge, Eamon O'Brien said he was horrified at hearing of the death of Mr McInerney, whom he knew to be a pleasant and sociable colleague and who as a member of the Law Society Council, had taken an active interest in the concerns of solicitors, particularly sole practitioners like himself.
Adrian MacLynn, solicitors, spoke on behalf of the Galway Law Association. He said Mr McInerney had reached the top of his profession at a very young age and was highly respected and esteemed by all of his colleagues.
He described Mr McInerney as a "highly valued and energetic collegeue", who was also very involved in many charitable causes, especially in fundraising for Crumlin Children's Hospital.
Garda Inspector Seán Glynn said he and the late Mr McInerney were good friends for many years.
"He was a close personal friend of mine and he was a very compassionate man. he was also a very sporting man and he put people's needs first and foremost. he is a person who will be sadly missed in this court," Inspector Glynn said.
Further tributes were paid by the probation service and court staff.
Judge O'Brien then adjourned the court for 20 minutes as a mark of respect and he dealt only with custody cases, adjourning the rest of the court list to the New Year.
Mr McInerney's funeral took place from St. Joseph's Church, Presentation Road, Galway. followed by burial at the New Cemetery, Bohermore.
