McMahon, Martin

May 08, 2009
The Late Martin McMahon The death occurred recently after an illness of Martin McMahon, Ballycannon House, Meelick. The late Martin originally farmed near the Watch House Cross which he sold to Limerick Corporation in the sixties before moving to Meelick. Throughout his lifetime, he was associated with Meelick and took an active part in local clubs and organisations. He was an ardent Clare supporter and with his late wife, Nora they travelled to hurling games all over the county. In more recent years, he and Robin O'Connell were featured on folklore radio programmes hosted by Kerryman Maurice O'Keeffe on Clare FM and Radio Kerry and tapes of those programmes are now libraries and universities. Throughout his life, Martin worked hard and lived life to the full. He enjoyed a few pints or a sing-song and became well known throughout the area for his rendition of "The Digs in Birmingham". Martin was pre-deceased by his wife, Nora and is survived by his son, Martin and sister, Kathleen. Courtesy of The Clare Champion 8th May 2009
