Maher, Anne

May 30, 2008
Anne was many things to many people. She was of, and for the community. She was an outstanding supporter of all things KIlmaley. Camogie at club and county were her great passions and be it on the sidelines of Cusack Park, Thurles or Croke Park, she attended and graced them with her enthusiasm. Indeed it was inspiring to see her attend club and county matches between her bouts of hospital confinements. Anne Maher had two preoccupations in life, family and community. When she quietly left us, not having reached 60 years, she had accomplished more than most. Her family was reared, the community of which she was an integral part was vibrant, above all her camogie club- she was long time chairperson- was and still is enjoying great success. Anne Maher was a worker in her community in the true sense of a volunteer. She was well known by every voluntary group in the parish for her support and in camogie circles, she was loved by players and mentors at every level, from seniors to under eights. Club and county benefited from her generous spirit. She baked for cake sales, she knitted for the apostolic society. She, along with others, ran a home produce stand at the Meitheal sports. She packed bags and organised flag days for camogie. She hassled for sponsorship, she made camogie skirts for teams, organised the jerseys. organised the arm bands for countless guards of honour and still, all was done with a giving spirit, expecting no reward. But above all, Anne Maher, was a family woman. She was the soul mate of her husband Michael for over 36 years and she was a supporting and guiding hand to her children, Siobhain, Rachel, Grainne, Edel, Michelle and Declan and mother-in-law to Trevor and Eoghan. Tat strong family bond was very evident in the constant support and attention they gave Anne at all times be it in Dublin, Galway or Care. She truly enjoyed her grandchildren, Megan, Caoimhe, Saoirse and Blaithin and will be greatly missed by them. Anne's experiences were honestly shared with everyone to benefit from. She shared her knowledge and human nature with all and in no end helped every organisation she was involved in as a result. Her commitment to camogie at both Club and County level will long be remembered through her work with teams and committees, where often the best work will go unnoticed but done to the best standards. Her church and faith played a central part in her life and school holidays were always marked by a visit to Knock. Her love of gardening and flowers were there to behold and enjoy. When word went out that Anne had a serious illness, people's shock was all the more, because of the type of person Anne was. How could this happen to a person who has given so much? She bore her illness with great courage and patience, and when she departed this life, the lives of those whom she had touched had been greatly enriched. She is greatly missed Bhi an tadh linn gur mhair si in ar measc, bron orainn anois go bhfuil si imithe ach cuimhniuchain iontach fagtha aici.
