Gerry O'Connor has stepped down as joint manager of the Clare senior hurlers.

Alongside Donal Moloney, O'Connor succeeded Davy Fitzgerald at the Banner County helm ahead of the 2017 season, the duo having led Clare to three All-Ireland U21 titles in a row from 2012 until 2014.

The closest O'Connor and Moloney came to repeating the Liam MacCarthy Cup heroics of 2013 was last year when the Banner lost an All-Ireland semi-final replay to Galway by a point.

This summer, Clare exited the championship on points difference despite defeating Cork in their last Munster SHC round-robin outing.

Killanena man O'Connor confirmed his departure to The Clare Echo, thanking the players, management team, County Board and supporters for their backing during his three-year stint and expressing the hope that Moloney's time in charge be extended.
