Clare to rule on relegation status

Decisions to be made in the Clare SFC

There is bewilderment in Clare GAA circles over how the SFC relegation format is set to play out.

A special county board meeting has been called to discuss the matter as uncertainty surrounds the issue of relegation from Group 1.

The concerns surround the amalgamated Naomh Eoin-O’Curry’s side who play in the senior football championship.

The county’s master fixtures has been published in the Clare Champion and states: “In the event that one or more grouped teams enter the senior championship in 2019, the grouped team will be added to a group by open draw with no more than one grouped team in each group. Should a grouped team finish bottom of the group, the third team in the group will contest the relegation semi-final.”

Naomh Eoin-O’Curry’s are bottom of their group having lost their opening two matches and with one round left, they can’t improve on their standing.

Kilmihil meet Kilrush this weekend with the loser set to go into a relegation play-off, but both clubs have questioned the rule and the matter is to be discussed at next week’s meeting.
