“I think the crowd got value for money. I haven’t seen so much passion in a championship match.”

Clare joint-manager Donal Moloney enjoyed the entertainment served up by the two teams in Ennis yesterday.

“All in all, it was a good battle on a hard, winter’s day. I think it sets it up for again later in the year.”

John Kiely is looking forward to coming up against the Banner County later in the summer.

“It’s the right decision, it’s about safety.”

Referee Alan Kelly made the right call to postpone Wexford’s game with Kilkenny, according to Davy Fitzgerald.

“I haven’t seen the pitch to be honest. Alan Kelly came in and told us that it looked bad. It’s his call. There is nothing we can do about it.”

Brian Cody had no complaints either with the referee’s decision.

“There’s always things to be learned. And you always look for the character of the player coming out in different ways. And while it wasn’t pretty, I thought Dublin showed really good character there in the last 20 minutes.”

Dublin supremo Mattie Kenny was delighted with how his team dug deep to edge out visitors Laois in Parnell Park.

“The job is only half done for Offaly – we have to stay up. Our guys knew their backs were to the wall. We are fighting for survival.”

Kevin Martin and Offaly will renew acquaintances with Carlow in a relegation play-off next weekend.
