Dermot Coughlan sustained a broken ankle early on in Clare’s Division Two draw with Armagh at Newry on Sunday.

The young wing forward was clearly in distress after going down on the icy surface just 20 seconds into the match, with a twelve-minute delay ensuing as he was treated on the field for a serious injury.

The Irish Independent reports that the player underwent corrective surgery in Santry yesterday and he is set to miss the remainder of the Banner County’s national football league campaign.

But manager Colm Collins describes him as “a very promising player” and told RTE that he hopes to have him back for the championship.
