Joe Cooney will take a step back from his role as Clare GAA chairman while he contests the local elections in May.

The O’Callaghan’s Mills clubman and Fine Gael councillor will shortly hit the campaign trail in a bid to retain his seat on Clare County Council. PJ McGaune, who saw off the challenge of Jack Chaplin at last month’s county convention to retain his position as vice-chairman, is expected to step up to the top job while Cooney is concentrating on his election campaign.
