Clare forward Colin Guilfoyle is eager to take his chances in the team as he looks to make the breakthrough.

Guilfoyle did his credentials no harm by scoring the winning goal against Cork in the Munster SHL after he made his first competitive start for the Banner County as a substitute.

The Newmarket-on-Fergus forward impressed when given his chance by joint managers Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor and the 22-year-old is determined to push on in 2019.

“Any time you come on you want to make an impact,” Guilfoyle told the Clare Champion. “The last thing Donal (Moloney) said to me when I was warming up was ‘go and get me a goal’.

“It was just opportunistic the way the ball broke and I just pulled on it, so thank God it went in. We were down four points at the time. We needed it and thankfully we pushed on after that.”
