St Joseph's Miltown Malbay (Clare) 2-9

This afternoon's Munster club SFC final went very much according to script as hot favourites Dr Crokes proved too strong for Miltown Malbay at the Gaelic Grounds.

The Killarney outfit had one hand on their eighth provincial title when they led by nine points after a devastating opening 12 minutes in which they scored 1-6 without reply. St Joseph's recovered somewhat to reduce the gap to six points at the break, but they couldn't get any closer in the second half as the former All-Ireland kingpins - who had 10 different scorers - ran out comfortable winners.

It was all Dr Crokes in the early stages when David Shaw's third-minute goal was followed by a barrage of points from Gavin O'Shea, Daithi Casey, goalkeeper Shane Murphy, Tony Brosnan and Kieran O'Leary.

Kevin Keavey eventually opened Miltown Malbay's account in the 13th minute and they trailed by just five points when Oisin Looney netted at the start of the second quarter. But Crokes never looked like losing control as further scores from Casey, Brian Looney and Tony Brosnan helped them to a 1-10 to 1-4 lead at the interval.

With Brosnan, Looney, Casey and Micheál Burns on target, the Kerry champions had extended their advantage to nine points by the end of the third quarter. To their credit, the Jack Daly Cup holders didn't gave up and Darragh McDonagh's stoppage-time goal put a better complexion on the scoreline.
