Positive news on Canning; not so McInerney

Joe Canning is expected to be fit for Galway's All-Ireland SHC semi-final replay against Clare on Sunday.

The Portumna clubman jarred his knee towards the end of Saturday's dramatic drawn encounter and word from inside the camp is that an eight-day turnaround will be sufficient for him to recover.

The news is not so encouraging for centre back Gearoid McInerney, however. The influential Oranmore-Maree clubman is believed to have sustained a calf tear (scan results are imminent) and could be out of action for three weeks or more weeks, which would rule him not just out of this weekend's fixture but also potentially an All-Ireland final meeting with Limerick.
