'They'll want to do it big-time against me'

Davy Fitzgerald reckons Clare will be desperate to beat him and his Wexford charges next Sunday.

Fitzgerald will face his native county for the first time since he became Wexford manager in Innovate Wexford Park. The Banner are already assured of an Allianz League quarter-final place spot after winning their first three Division 1A games, but the Sixmilebridge man isn't expecting any favours from them.

"I know a lot of them lads, I've won a lot of stuff with them lads. I've nothing but admiration for them. But I feel the Clare lads will lift it incredible playing against me. I really do." he said after Saturday night's defeat to Tipperary.

"Why is that? They'll want to perform against me, I know that. It's not out of lack of respect. I know they'll want to do it big-time against me. They'll be coming to Wexford Park all guns blazing.

"Clare seem to be flying it at the moment. In this division, anyone can beat anyone. The most important thing for Wexford is, we were odds on to go down. We still might go down, but we're able to compete."

Clare joint-manager Donal Moloney is also looking forward to the clash.

"I am sure we will get a great welcome in Wexford," he smiled.

"It's always a daunting challenge to go into Wexford. They are playing really well. I know Tipp won (against Saturday), but they put them under ferocious pressure and had a couple of goal opportunities that didn't work out.

"They were very much in that game and Davy has done some job with them."
