Do you think another mass would help?

We have a good full forward line in Tom Hayes, Ryan Conolly and Conor Madden. Plenty of ability in those boys, so hopefully we'll see a return to a more conventional style of play, lets face it, the tactics of the last few years just have not cut it at this level, work well in Ulster, but that's about it.

I'd consider a county with 4 Ulsters, 1 All Ireland appearance and 3 very narrow Semi Final losses very much 'cutting it' at that level. Have Mayo not cut it at Senior Level for the past few years because they haven't won Sam? If someone told you in January 2011 that you'd win 4 Ulster U21s in a row you'd bite their hand off. We're Cavan, an Ulster title is never something to be sniffed at.

I have to agree with Ned on this one... Cavan have done very little after Ulster... A very lucky win v mighty Wexford led to our worst beating at all Ireland final level... Although we ran Dublin close last year it was woefull stuff... Lets go out and try and play and see if we can produce a couple of decent forewards instead of boreing everybody to tears in a competition nobody seems to care about much..

True, but after winning four of them you'd have to ask serious questions as to why we've only made the final once, getting trounced in it too. Truth is we've never got within a prayer of winning the big one. Mayo have come agonisingly close to winning Sam, so not a valid comparison. Narrow semi-final losses? Yes, but still losses, take all the moral victories you want, I'd rather see the lads win something tangible.

Would agree its time the GAA took a thorough review of this competition in light of the pressures mounting on young players nowadays. I'd have it first in line for the chop to help alleviate the burnout problem. We may be good at it here in Cavan, but for the greater good I don't see any point in retaining it.

Some outrageous clowns here. Not content with bad mouthing the seniors. Now your at underage lads. Since when did getting to 5 finals in a row become something to be ignored. I said it before if yous dont like the way they play then stop going! You wont be missed. I for one will be in ballybofey and wont care if they win one nil.

Why get rid of a competition that young players eligible for? If anything Senior County teams should hold back and let U21's play at that grade until the competition is over. They will playing be Senior football long enough afterwards if they are lucky.

U21 is a great way for young players to improve before making the Step to Senior and gain confidence. The talk of replacing Minor and U21 with U19 is hardly a great scenario.

Relax dude, if you don't like other people's informed and reasoned opinions, then that's your problem, no need to get so uptight and offensive, haven't we all enough problems with water charges and endless austerity. I for one have always outlined a coherent argument to back up my opinions, so if you view them as negative that's your prerogative, but you can be angry and upset on your own. It's a simple fact that we have failed outside of Ulster repeatedly. I'm asking why this is the case and what we can do to address it. I offered up changing the style as a solution. What have you contributed but a bitter attack on your fellow fans.

Yeah not a bad idea, but county senior managers would never go for it surely? Being denied potentially some of their best players? I can't see that happening. I think there's too much on a lad of 18 with college football, minor football, club and u21, and in rare cases even senior. It's simply too much.

But at least you offered up a solution foolsgold, glad some of us can have reasoned discussions.

Sceptical.... As said before noone is giveing out or bad mouthing any players...its the horrible boreing tatics they were been asked to play that people dont like... I was talking to people from4/5 different counties in the days after the Dublin defeat and not one of them thought Cavan deserved to win...in fact they were glad thhey got beat and I know it wasnt their love of Dublin was the reason...??? Hopefully we will see a nicer brand of football from these young lads this year

I stand by my origional judgement DUDE!! This is not professional sport where your entrance fee goes towards their wages. Your talking about lads who have already minor and u21 medals to their name. THEY DONT OWE YOU OR ANY OTHER KEYBOARD WARRIOR ANYTHING. Playing attacking football is a thing of the past. Also If madden had not gotten injured then I believe we would have gotten over dublin negative football and all. Im sure peter reilly is licking his lips with delight at your solutions ned which, apart from pointing out that cavan are defensive, amount to what gameplan exactly??

Look lads maybe im being too harsh but we need to be realistic. Look what happened to roscommon playing open football against the dubs.

Given how the minor teams of the last three years have performed in Ulster it will be a big ask to expect another successful campaign in the weeks ahead.
