He could be alright, done a great job along with McStay with St Brigids.

Shane Curran aka Cake reporting on Twitter that he wasn't part of the set up under Leahy ,so wasn't rejected by Westmeath.

Crazy stuff.he has being rejected by his own county and by westmeath.reminds me of the time Jim McGuinness went for the cavan job and Val Andrews was given it ahead of him...the rest is history.

Every Inter County team has more then 1 selector.., Downes is repacing Joe McCarthy. Former Gaels player, played some ball with London.

Good to see McHale and Downes added to the management team. both have lots of experience both as players and as part of team management. McHale with Mayo and St Brigid's, Downes with London and Limerick, and Killeshandra and Cavan Gaels. I expect some on here will have a problem with Downes as he has links with Cavan Gaels.

There is a Kevin Downes that playes FF on the Limerick Hurling team, maybe that's what was the mix up?

Kevin Downes coached London for the past 4 years and he must not be too bad lads as he got them to a Connacht final and the last 12 and that is London we are talking about. Cavan only pulled away from them in the last 10mins in Croker and from what I hear from my mate in London is that they have huge time for Kevin, he is supposed to be a brilliant coach. Mowbar typical Cavan comment, shoot a man down without even knowing him or what he can do.

Maybe people are getting Downes mixed up with Killian Phair? Former Gaels player who played for London and now plays for Limerick?

I was in London a few years back and the county lads would rave about Downes, drills are top notch and has a serious knowledge of the game, reckoned he was the best coach they had seen and they all played county back home before London.
